Bit-locker : secure your drive now !

Hey friends,

Ever thought about locking the hard drive partitions or any removable disk? If yes, there is a way to encrypt the drives. It is the features given by the windows, by which you can lock your drive or a removable disk with a password or by some other methods.

When you will lock a drive or disc the BitLocker will give you the recovery key in the case you lost your password. Save it very carefully because if you lost your password and do not have any recovery key, you will lose your disc data. So let us know that how BitLocker works:

Step 1: Go to the drive or a disc on my computer.

Step 2: Right-click on the drive.

Step 3: Click on "Turn on BitLocker".

Step 4: Now a "BitLocker drive encryption" pop will open.

Step 5: Check the box of "Use a password to unlock the drive".

Step 6: Enter the password and retype the password to confirm the password.

Step 7: Click on "Next".

Step 8: Now it will ask you to save your recovery key. You can save it anyway in your computer or in a USB flash drive. You can also print the recovery key. It is good to save your recovery key anywhere except desktop and the drive which is going to encrypted. Now choose any of the option that you want and click "Next".

Step 9: Click on "Start encrypting" and the encryption will start.

Note: The encryption process can take a long time. It depends on the storage of your drive. 

If you shut down your system before completing the process then there are very few chances that your data will be corrupt. 

If you shut down your system before completing the encryption process, just turn on the system again after sometime or whenever you want and click on the drive. It will ask you to enter the password. Enter your password and the drive encryption will start from the point where it was left last time.
